trade-offs i suppose, it would be great if we could detect what version of 
office the user had installed and then act accordingly. 

We could ask them what version they have and then tailor the software functions 
accordingly, but they would have to change these options each time they change 
their pc

it also depends a great deal on target client base. eg if we provide an in 
house software for medical institutions then it is unlikely they wouldn't have 
ms office installed.

whats your thoughts, do you see any alternatives?
