When they mention OpenOffice they are usually talking about _converting_ office 
files, not generating them from scratch. AFAIK OpenOffice is not used at all to 
_generate_ spreadsheets. Only POI is used.

Using built in CF functionality? No. Last I checked CF9 only supported 
conversion of MS Word documents. There was no support for modifying/creating 
new MS Word documents.
