One of the problems with learning programming, in my opinion, is that there are a lot of separate, distinct topics that you have to understand before you can make sense of the whole. To me, this is an example of that. I think that Matt would be hard-pressed to summarize these points well enough that someone without the right background would understand them. Of course, I'll leave that up to him to decide! I realize that this may strike you as a cop-out, but I think that it's an accurate assessment. These ARE things you should know more about, but they're things that don't crop up as obvious issues in most CF development, because of the nature of CFML. It's a very loose, easy language. What I've learned of that list of buzzwords, I didn't learn until I forced myself to learn it, by dint of learning OO programming and multi-tiered environments - and there's quite a bit of it that I still don't know. Furthermore, until you've exposed yourself to these other environments and languages, you may not see the relevance for CF development, but it's there. In the meantime, feel free to use Fusebox if it helps you do your job better. Do whatever you like, if it helps you do your job better. Just remember that it's a big world out there, and the broader your perspective, the easier it'll be for you to see the connections between things and why those connections matter.
