I'm not super familiar with VSS, but I know DW a bit.

I'm guessing because you set up the site definition in DW with VSS as the remote 
server, you're going to have to adjust your site definition if you want your 
production server to be where the files are uploaded (remote), instead of to the VSS 
database.
