I suspect (hope?) they chose a developer based on a lot of factors, one of the least important being the technology used. I like to think they would factor in the track record of the company, the skill of the graphic designer, the information design and so on. Lots of things.

I think arguing over the technology used is like arguing that Ford is better than Holden. I try to explain this to clients sometimes if they ask me why I use ColdFusion, I usually tell them my handy car analogy, then try to explain that the skill of the driver makes a lot of difference, and a bad driver in a good car is still a bad driver. To be fair they often look at me like I am a rambling madman.

At the end of the day if they need a site that is a basic CMS you can do that in anything, e-commerce can be done in anything - there's no real point of difference between all these things other than the perceived skills of the person "driving" it all.

Yeah I agree Kai,

Many moons ago Adobe and a company called Firmware here used to promote it a
lot, I used to get a demo pack hit my desk quarterly followed by a sales
call.

One day I tried it, went along to a sales pitch and demo and took along the
CEO, which included Spectra at that time and decided we liked what we saw.

So I can appreciate the allure of a good sales pitch, the fact that Adobe
don't do this type of thing in ANZ and haven't done for a while, ends up
with people moving and few new customers signing up.

With that said, whenever I advertise a position I get a good range of
applicants, so I don't subscribe to the theory that people have moved
because they cant find people.

1. Ahh, that might have played a role. Typical problem in AU and NZ, seen it
before (in NZ)

New guy in power who regularly meets with his CEO and CIO networks for
lunch/dinner/golf and gets asked why they use that weird ColdFusion product
when .NET is so much better. Lobbying from MSFT is extremely good down here
and strategic lobbying from Adobe for ColdFusion unfortunately doesn't
happen in AU/NZ.

2. It _might_ be that is has nothing to do with each other. Maybe they want
to strategically move towards MSFT infrastructure and run a huge $harepoint
or whatever infrastructure where CF doesn't make that much sense anymore.

Cheers
Kai

Interesting,

Anyone know who the IT manager is, I'd love to email him about the factors
that led to the decision.
