I thought the article was quite interesting and very funny. He had some valid points about the use of HTML and using it correctly. Recently I was working with a HTML coder that was able to code pages that looked great in the latest browser versions and then rolled back into earlier version browsers still looking great. It was just smart coding.
Using server side validation. 100% for that one. Current project demanded that and now I totally agree with it. You have total control over the content being submitted. Sometimes I think developers and designers tend to forget that they are building a site for the end user and not to impress their buddies.
