My favorite stunt the pull is the mysterious job that always seemed to be filled within hours of being posted on a site.

You get up early and check the site, see a new job, contact them direct because you never hear back from them when you email, only to hear that the job has already been filled. Then it stays on the recruitment site for 4 weeks.

I am surprised you even got an interview with them Scott. They sent me out to an interview once, told the company how great I was even though they only spoke to me on the phone for 5 minutes. Its no wonder that many companies are posting their own positions and have clearly marked at the bottom of the page, "no agents please".

Subject: [cfaussie] Re: Who knows all this stuff??

Recruitment firms are clowns and bottom feeders (most of them).

9/10 all they do is take the requirements stuff that up, and basically go ... Scott... meet Joe from XYZ Company.. Joe from XYZ Company meet scott..

wheres my 10k now for my work in getting him in that position...

What pisses me off even more, is after every 3 or so months they get you in for a "Chat" where they ask you the same stupid questions, and update their database... its like ffs! man, just give me access to the computer online and i'll keep my shit upto date myself.

Not to mention its a waste of your time, as lets also face it that when you are unemployed you watch your $ and cents like a hawk, and their little chats end up costing you anywhere between $10-30 in expenses to get into the building, not to mention make you unavailable for half a day.

Furthere more, the above is just stupid "ideally required".. that tells me one of two things:

1. the person(s) in charge of hiring this employee haven't a clue what the hell it is they will be doing and most likely will ask you stupid questions like "rate yourself as a programmer between 1 and 10".... to which you state the obvious... 9...or...10... who's going to go in and go... "well actually you busted me, i'm really only a 2... sorry for wasting your time and yes.. i did just pee my pants"..

2. They want a guru who can do all the above and single handedly take the company into the next quantum leap of the internets future.... that or they will want that employee to do everything and pay him as little as possible..

Thats my 2c anyway.

Scott.

Hey guys

Just curious about something.  Just saw an add for a web developer position and this is what they required.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
· Experiences in all of the following technologies are ideally required:
HTML, DHTML, CCS, ASP or ASP.Net, Cold Fusion (4.5 or later), ADO (2.1 or later), Transact SQL, VB or VB.Net, VBA and Win32 API.
· Experience in Java, VC++ or C#, VJ++ of J# is highly desirable.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does anyone on this list know all of this stuff?

I would expect that people would have knowledge of about half of whats listed.

Regards

Steve Onnis
