I'd be interested in hearing more about the procedures that you mentioned; how they work, what they do and why you need them. Sorry if that is a fairly broad list but having gotten a CVS server setup and installed the client software I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to co-ordinate development code, CVS and production code...
Alternatively, do you know any 'CVS for Dummies' type books or websites that could answer these questions.

I'd be more than happy to take this off list and give you a hand. I've set up several CVS servers on several OSes, and am pretty familiar with the client side tool available.
We have a setup at work with several developers (stable four with as many as 8-12), a CVS server and three separate repositories running on RH9 (although they used to be on a Windows machine running CVSNT) with a code base around 100K lines. We run:
* daily developer checkouts * daily master dev builds (automatically) * twice-weekly test builds (automatically) * as-needed prod builds for shipping to outsourced prod servers
None of it's hard, it just takes a while to get your head around.
