If you give it a go again and tell us where you fail we can help you out with 
that.

1. create a new DTS package
2. start adding the connections
3. start adding the transformations
4. adjust the settings
5. run it

Seriously DTS is the way to go, don't give up.
You can also try resources like experts-exchange.com to get help with your 
DTS probs..
