Right, last I knew the CFMX server(s) is connected to the webserver(s). If the webservers are too busy to talk to CF, then... is that not an additional load / flaw of the system? So, that's why I say you have to take vanilla webserver traffic in account as well.
You are correct that realistic load testing on a web server / app server setup needs to take into account the static requests as well as the dynamic requests. I think it's fair to say this is one of the most difficult parts of load testing - simulating real-world traffic across the website, using a test system that closely matches the intended production architecture!
