Hello,

I worked on the "Royale" project now publicly known as Flex Presentation Server (a RIA
solution) here at Macromedia and this is worth checking out if you haven't seen it
already - http://www.macromedia.com/software/flex/

(flex white paper)http://www.macromedia.com/go/flex_tech_wp

plus, Flash MX 2004 has some new, cool controls that simplify connecting to backend
data sources, webservice, xml, ...

BTW - I'm new to the list. I've been with MACR, formerly Allaire Corp, since 1997 and
have been working on the CF Team nearly all that time. This is a great forum.

Subject: RE: [CFCDev] Best Methodology/Framework for building RIA

I fall into the later category. I have used Sean's FlashRemotingCFC and it
has worked well for our application thus far. Mach-ii is pretty popular
right now (and rightly so), and the posts on www.fusebox.org are mentioning
a better integration with flash in the future release. By no means do I
have my finger on the pulse of Mach-ii, but I like it quite a bit, and am
working on an application using it with Flash. I do think there are some
nuances using it with flash, but it seems too effective not to have it work
more cleanly. Basically keeping my fingers crossed =) Just FYI. I tried to
find the url but Sean has a good article out on Macromedia.com that talks
about the Facade pattern that they used for macromedia.com. Seemed like a
good architecture for flash from those who do it best. Also, have you
looked at FLEX?

Take care,

Justin

This a url I found, but I remember there being more?

Subject: [CFCDev] Best Methodology/Framework for building RIA

Everyone,

I have been doing quite a bit of research/reading over the course of the
this week for finding the best methodology/framework for building Rich
Internet Apps (RIA).

I have built many apps (even very complex) utilizing Fusebox (all versions
and even FuseQ). I have been doing research/testing with Mach II and like
its use of CFCs, but even Sean Corfeild states that it isn't good for
developing RIA. I know that Hal Helms has been looking for a flash
developer to do the Roulette example with a flash front end though -- not
sure of the status though.

Does anyone know of a good framework/methodology that works well with
building RIA? Any good examples out there?

Since we are purely rebuilding a large chunk of our app using CFC's, am I
better using Mach II and hoping I (or someone) can create an elegant
solution when we are ready to start creating the Flash stuff (will utilize
Flash Remoting). Or should I just use FuseQ (fusebox) with CFC's and know I
will be refactoring again to do the RIA stuff?

THANK!
Jeremy
