I believe the bigger jump is because the basic shift from procedural code to
MVC was a shift in methodologies. Many people don't try to "think" like the
application, and as an engineer you have that skill. Therefore shifting from
FB3 to FB4 was difficult because it isn't like an upgrade so much as a
rewrite. It could be compared with moving from a VB.net app to a C#.net app.
They are similar in many ways but the bottom line is they are very different
and it's a big shift. (Not speaking for or against FB4... just why it was
harder for many to see the transition as simple.)

On the other hand MG is a different creature. It doesn't think the same and
you know it. Therefore it is easier to let go of the old patterns when
moving that way. This isn't because the platform is of necessity better
(which it may or may not be)... but rather because the mind is willing to
accept change faster because the platform is different. This amounts to less
mental baggage.

I think that depends on your background. I found the jump from FB3 to
FB4 much bigger than many others apparently found it.

Since the CFCs for MG can be placed anywhere, as can the views, this
is already true for MG as far as I can tell. The only thing that needs
to be in the webroot, for example, is the index.cfm entry point - all
other files can be in a shared area outside of webroot (this is true
for FB41, M2 and MG).
