with my hp 71b BASIC machine from 1982 odd this is all you need to know: edit progam name run program name optional end of story or if paranoid, or wise, copy it to a medium for external storage you also forgot that ijs goes into read only mode on its own what does it mean 'to pipe into J' and all the other 'piping' you mentioned. Is J different from ijs or ijx?
