Hmm, allowing .htaccess files directly would realy impact performance. So this isnt an (real) option.

My best bets would be: Extending the existing "quick" app rules. Or write a plugin which just searches for .htaccess files on the webdirectory and integrates them into the rewrite rules. I dont crawled into the apache source code. But it is opensource, is the htaccess thing not open source too?

Another idea would be to start a pledge and see what happens? :)
