I see it a bit more like "let's not waste this money and tell the
Cherokee people" ;D Half (or more) of the code is done, and nobody likes
throwing code ;)

I think the heart of the issue is that there was money invested in
another option that did not work out. If it had worked out, this
discussion would not be taking place. While providing a solution may
help Cherokee grow, it may not either. Unfortunately, besides
someone being passionate about this piece, the only other motivator is
money. If the other option is Apache, and people do not see the
benefit of a better solution, then settle for it. There are other
commercial options out there, but they cost money too. :-)
