My BB and 3.07 gear and tire size runs right at 3000
at 75 and never gets above 190. I prefer to run in the 2400-2600 range
when I'm driving 6-10 hours at a time, about 65-70 which is the speed
limit anyway in most states. Enroute to Nashville this year I took a
side trip to KC - about 450 miles and ran it 70-75 all the way. Next day
we left for Nashville - about 600 miles and drove it straight through less
fuel and food stops. Still ran it 70-75 all the way. From KC to
Nashville we were with a couple of other cars and although we pretty much
stayed together, I didn't like driving that long at 3000 plus (they liked to
run 80-85 on the highway).
Last year going to Nashville from Lawton (about 800
miles), I drove it in two easy days at 65-70 and had no problems what so
ever. Plan on taking it back to KC in August for the MCR
there.

I have a question regarding engine RPM. I have
a 350 with Edelbrock Performer RPM's hydraulic lifters,
intake and carb kit with regular flat top pistons I built about a year
ago. The compression is normal for that of a 350 (8.5 to
1?) and it runs just fine on 87 octane. The tranny is a 350 with
a 1,800-2,400 stall converter and mild shift kit set at "towing" stage with
no added tranny cooling. My rearend is all new including axles and posi unit
with Richmond 3.36 gears.
**My question is this.** On the interstate at
cruising speed (65 mph) I am running 3,100 RPM's. Is this ok for long
periods of travel say 6-8 hours? It seems somewhere I read that you
want to stay below 3,000 RPM's........
Also, what would be the MAXIMUM RPM's a person would want
to run at for long periods of time?
