I agree. With the money "we" spend on our cars, it would be nice if there
was a list of parts "to avoid" as well as vendors "to avoid". The more
parts I buy, the more problems I encounter with the quality of the
reproductions. As far as Ground Up Restorations, I do not have very nice
things to say. The parts (big block valve covers & open element air
cleaner) that they sent me DID NOT FIT ! I could not believe that they
market chrome BB valve covers, w/drippers and the correct projection
"dimples" visible, but they DO NOT FIT ! The same with the open element air
cleaner. Actually, the air cleaner fits fine, until you try to install the
flame arrestor (wire screen for air breather) that Ground Up sells. The
flame arrestor is perfectly round, the tube that is welded into the base is
round also. However, the tube is cut at an angle, which makes the hole
"oblong" and the round flame arrestor DOES NOT FIT ! I am presently
cutting, welding, and grinding to make the flame arrestor work. The valve
covers were sent back, (guess who pays for both shipping cost ?).
You have to wonder...don't they even try this stuff out to see if it fits
? Before they sell it ? I am so disgusted with the lack of quality in the
reproduction parts business. If you cannot make the part correctly, don't
waste time, energy, resources, and ultimately MY MONEY !!!
Sorry for the "soapbox", but it really ticks me off when the catalogs say
"These exact reproduction covers....blah,blah,blah" - the caption should
read, "These covers LOOK real nice, but don't fit for SH#T" !!"
