If you read any of the publications on the history of
the Chevelle, the 396/402 had nothing to do with a
strike, or rusting blocks, or slightly being
overbored, it came about when GM was trying to limit A
body cars to a 400ci,This was something that went back
to 1965. The 402 was offered from 69-72, this would
account for a hell of a lot of rusted blocks!!!
