the HP was rated different , 1966 HP was rated at the motor and 1977 at the
rear wheels. also in about 1971 they started dropping the HP in performance
cars. maybe one of the other list members will get technical about this.
what do you consider very expensive? maybe buying a GM crate motor and having
it shipped may be more economical.
one thing i will ask now is the whole motor missing or do you have the
brackets for any thing like alternator, power steering or air conditioning?
Up to 1968 CHEVELLES small block and big block took a short water pump.you
can put a motor with a long pump (69 and newer) but brackets and radiator
position may be different.
