I ran a #10 wire from the battery to a Bosch Relay that was mounted on the
firewall.  The relay is energized in the key on position. Not sure which
wire this is, but the car is at a body shop and I can't get at it right now.

Don, could you please describe the way your HEI's 
wired?  Since your '71 didn't come with it from the 
factory someone obviously added it later.

When I convert from points to HEI (or any other ignition 
requiring 12 volts) I like to run a 10-gauge wire 
straight from the IGN tap in the fuse block, if it's 
available.
