Yes, you'll have to remove the brake drums. The drums will pull right off. The brake backing plate does not have to come off, but you can take it off by removing the 4 bolts that hold it to the axle housing. And be sure to remove the center pin in the carrier. There will be a small bolt holding it in place. The pin also holds the axles in place. Once it's removed, then you can push the axles in, and you'll be able to see the c-clips on the end of the axles. Use a magnet to pull them out, then the axles will pull out. Then remove the main caps, and the carrier will come out. Be sure to note exactly how the main caps came out (which side, which was the top,etc), they must be put back in exactly the way they came out. Also note which side the shims came out of, and which side the bearing/race came out of.
