You're quite welcome for the help. First of all, are you sure you have a GM 12 bolt, rather than a BOP 12 bolt? If you have a BOP (Buick-Olds-Pontiac), then the dissassembly procedure is differnt. If you have a GM 12 bolt, then remove the rear cover. You should note that there is a 1" pin going through the center of the carrier (where the ring gear is mounted). There will be a small bolt that keeps this center pin in place. Remove the bolt, and slide the pin out. Now your internal gears will be loose. Also, the axles should now slide toward the center of the axle housing about 1/4" or so. Look inside the carrier at the end of the axle. There will be a c-clip in there that holds the axle in place. It is literally in the shape of a "C". The c-clips should come out easily. Once they are removed, you can remove your axle. If there are no c-clips at the ends of the axle, then you have the BOP 12 bolt. The axles are retained to the axle housing at the outer end of the axle tube. Remove the 4 bolts that mount the brake backing plate to the axle housing, and pull out the axle. Hope that helps!
