Regardless of what people say about this (not to say it isn't true, but....) I have always alleviated radiator problems in the summer by removing the thermostat. (I run a thermostat most of the time, this isn't something I do every year). The car always runs cooler and never overheats. It does run too cool, but I've never in my 30 years of driving, had a problem doing this. Nine times out of ten I needed a new radiator at the time due to blockages in the system. I ran my Elky without a thermostat for over a month last year with absolutely no problems. So while science says don't do it, real life says it's worked for me. (Also the system is still closed as long as the radiator cap is on).
I've had better luck with radiators that don't have plastic panels on the end as in the aluminum ones. I find the AT lines fit better in metal and the constant heating and cooling of the system doesn't warp the metal as it can the plastic.
