through testing it has been proven that sb chevy's perform better if kept in a operating range of 145-190 degrees.
True. I should say that I've never just removed a thermostat without having a problem of some sort with the radiator.
Newer[comp controled]sbc's are maintained at a higher temp for emission purposes and newer cars experence a great deal more wear than the engine blocks found in older cars, that is one of the reasons why you'll find more older['70's] "010" 350 blocks w/standard bores than any newer casting........ [also these blocks contain more tin & nickel than the newer blocks/they no longer concern themselves[the manufactuers] with a block that will go 150k with 1thousandths wear,due to the fact that newer cars simply dont last as long in general]
I am with you on this part 100%. I am now (after the ill-fated MCSS imbroglio) dead set against any computer controlled engines in my driveway. I do have one now, but it's been stripped of all but the computer, carb and dist, which go next. Then they go to ebay. I found the post 1979 cars in general aren't built worth a ____.....
I think another reason they don't make cars to last is that rarely does anyone keep a car long enough to see 100k anymore.
