Chad, Chad, Chad...... Nothing strange here but this line of questioning. Powerglides were popular in the 50s/60s. And are still very popular for drag racing today. They have 2 speeds, 2 gears, 1st and 2nd, 1st and Drive, it's all the same thing. Yes, you use both first and 2nd. Not really all that much different from a TH350/TH400 (don't ask), except there are 2 gears instead of 3. Start out in 1st, drive to a preferred RPM, and shift to 2nd, drive to your destination.
It's an automatic transmission. Shifts on it's own in stock form, no clutch. Automatic. Yea, first gear is used up to about 60mph (for me). My '69 Chevelle would go up to 80mph in 1st with the taller 3.08 gears. Can we end this line of questioning now? Search for 'powerglide' from the Yahoo search engine, and spend the next 3 years reading about them. This is the point we're trying to make about the endless questions. Spend a few minutes of effort, and learn all about Powerglides. Mike "an answering fool" P. Chad Playso wrote: > That's strange...so when you race - what do you use? 2nd gear?
