Being the skeptical and show me the proof type, I got involved with a thread on Team Chevelle.  http://www.chevelles.com/forum/Forum29/HTML/001832.html  The Popular Mechanics web site (http://popularmechanics.com/automotive/sub_coll_vintage/1999/4/65_chevelle/) said one was built for Bunkie Knudsen although GM claims ALL were hardtops and only 200 of those made.  Anyway, the TC thread has a gentleman who claimed to have owned the car and bought it used through the GM Tech Center and was triple Gold and not Red, Black or Yellow.  No dealer records, no insurance records, no state vehicle registration records exist so far.  Like FOX News, I just report it, you decide.

Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] 65 Z-16 Conv.

The Z-16 conv. myth has been circulating for along time. I veiw it the same as Big Foot. They my have fabed up one in the engineering/reaserch dept. just like they did a 4 wheel drive El-Camino. but the only thing the 4X4 El-Camino saw was the big blue torch. Being the Z-16 conv has not sown up in 37 years ,  I am willling to bet dollars to dounuts,  that if they proto-typed a 65 BB Z-16 type conv it meet the same  scrap heap fate
