Hey guys,

I've been thrown a curve ball while doing this engine swap. I have a 71
Chevelle and this is the history that I know about it. When the previous
owner bought the car it had a 350 in it. He went to have the engine rebuilt
and (SOMEHOW) they convinced him to let them put a 307 in (don't ask me
why). So when I bought the car it had a 307 in it. I bought a 350 crate
engine and I have the old 307 out, the engine compartment painted, the
engine was going to go in last night, but we can't get the thing on the
frame brackets. Actually after a lot of hammering and bending, prying, etc,
we got one side on, but now the other side's not even close. I remembered
hearing somewhere that 307 frame brackets are different than other engine
sizes, so I looked up an article online and got the right part numbers that
I needed, etc. I got a pair of frame brackets off of a 69 chevelle from the
salvage yard today. According to the article I have with the part numbers,
I need the short style frame brackets, not the tall ones. So I looked at a
pair of tall ones on a 69 and a pair of short ones on a 69 and bought the
short ones. I looked all over for a part number on those things, but they
don't have one stamped on them. (doh!). So I bought them anyway since
they're just like the description in the article I have. I came home to
compare them with what's on the car now and to my surprise they're TOTALLY
different. The ones on the car appear to be mounted toward the front of the
car, whereas these ones I bought mount in the center. I'm REALLY confused
because the holes don't seem to match up with the front crossmember.

I was wondering if anyone doing a frame off who has their engine out could
snap a quick picture of the location of the holes on their front crossmember
where the frame brackets mount? Please send it off list if you have one.
Thanks! It can be any year from 68-72, and a NON-307 car. Thanks!

I've given up for the night, but tomorrow I'll pull the engine back out,
unbolt the current frame brackets and see if I can get a better view so I
can figure out what I'm going to do. Is it possible that someone welded in
a crossmember from another car? Thanks for any insight anyone can provide!

Rodney.
