As I start to understand it all a little better... Ever notice how Flowmaster mufflers are referred to as 4-inch or 5-inch? Well, that number represents thickness of the muffler. Both the 30 series and the 50 series have a 23-inch overall length and 17" case length. The 30 series are 5-inch thick by 10 inches wide, and 50 series come in both 4-inch thick by 9.75 inches wide, and 5-inch thick by 10 inches wide. So, 30 and 50 series are all pretty much the same size.
The 40 series is another story completely. They are all 4-inches thick by 9.75 inches wide, but have a case length of 13-inches and an overall length of 19 inches (much shorter). Those can't be easily interchanged like the 30s & 50s. Anyway, I thought it was interesting.
