I'm not showing any record of an "IN" for 1966, 67, or 68. There was an "EN" in 1966 & 67, which was 360HP, A/T, A.I.R. in 1966, and 350HP w/ Powerglide & A.I.R. in 1967. I think that's what your Chevy Talk guy is referring to. There is no "IN" for those years.
BTW, A.I.R. stands for Air Injection reactor. Still no evidence of an IN anywhere. If it's a 1965 engine, it would have to be an IX (Z16 engine) as that was the only 396 offered in 1965, and the only engine code that began with an "I" as well (I didn't find any "I"s for 1966 or 1967 at all).
