[Chevelle-list] Reverse Flow Water Pumps

I was looking at the PAW catalog last night (my Christmas wish book) and saw reverse flow water pumps for big blocks. I am curious why reverse flow would be desired and what other modifications this requires? Is this for racing only, or is it a good street modification? Anyone have a BBC with such a modification?
