Dale, I’m
interested to hear the results of your 200R4 conversion when all is said and
done. I remember one lister (Kelly
Hanna I think?) had done up a 200R4 and had catastrophic failure within a few
days, although I see lots and lots of 11 and 12 second turbo Buicks, and I’m
sure those guys didn’t all convert to 700R4s. I’d really like an overdrive for my 406-powered ’70 and the
200R4 looks like a lot simpler of an install when replacing a TH350. Does anyone else on the list have any 200R4
success stories? -Dave -----Original

Phoenix will probably cost more in the short haul but I feel
they're pretty well established and they were real good to talk to. Had
no qualms at all about doing the work even after looking at the car on my
website. I plan to leave it with them for whatever time it takes so it's
not like I have to stand around and watch although I'd love to. Dale McIntosh -----Original

Clint, I can see the need for trans fluid to come up to temp but another
$450/$500 radiator is not in my budget right now. I figure if I give the
trans a chance to warm up a bit on those cool (LOL) 60 days, it'll be
alright. I disbelieved the "...no fuel mileage improvement..."
part as well. A 30% reduction in engine speed has to improve
mileage, especially when we're talking 3 to 4 hrs of steady highway
speeds. It may even lose a bit of mileage in town due to the converter
slippage in Drive, but I can live with that. BTW, it was Jeff I talked
to. He wanted no part of a installation and "fabrication of the rear
mount, cutting the driveshaft, etc..." He did mention Ken Walker (?)
but I may still take it to Phoenix Trans in Weatherford since they will install
everything. They're also a Lokar dealer so I can get the throttle-body
attachement and Lokar cable to match the throttle. Dale McIntosh |
