I just picked up a 454 4 bolt block a few weeks ago at a swap meet for $400. I went down there with the thought of cleaning out my garage. I started the day with $60 and ended with $59, so I figured I got the block for $1 :-)   Ron   -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]On Behalf Of Dale McIntosh Sent: Thursday, October 16, 2003 6:28 PM To: 'The Chevelle Mailing List' Subject: RE: [Chevelle-list] Looking for a 4 Bolt main Big Block Chevy Mot or Four bolt mains (original or not) are not going to "give" you more horsepower as such, but they may just give you a bit more insurance on the bottom end.  There are a lot of very strong 2-bolt main blocks out there putting out some good horsepower numbers.  It can be a status thing (as in, "yeah, 454 with 4-bolt mains, 3/4 cam, 12.5:1 TRW's, and a Holley double-pumper") or simply peace of mind knowing you have a stronger lower end if you ever need it.  As usual, it boils down to your preference and what you're going to do with the car.   Given the choice between the two at the same time for about the same money, sure, the 4-bolt everytime.  But, waiting and waiting for one to come along that somebody doesn't think is made of gold so you can maybe, sometimes race it (legally)?   Dale
