Herb,
Breaking either heater hose (or rad hose) still
releases the water under pressure since the entire system is under
pressure. The return heater hose is 'theoretically' cooler since it has
had some of its heat bled off by the heater core and heater fan (if it's on)
much like the lower rad hose is normally cooler than the top rad
hose.
