John.... Don't need to use tape on the threaded  flare nut fittings...
Sometimes on new lines you need to set and loosen and reseat them...
 Not sure of the size of the O ring sorry,,,
A car like ours that sit for a length of time , the fluid level is vary high
from the valve body draining.
I had trouble with my OD trans over the winter months...
I cleaned the filler tube area and use new O ring and sealed with clear
silicone
