I used a similar set-up like Mike's behind the 468" in my 68 El Camino. 3rd
gear would lock & unlock while 4th was always locked-up. After four years of
hard street use,the stock converter lock-up clutch started to slip under
full throttle so I replaced the converter with a custom Vigilante 2,600rpm
lock-up converter. End of problems. With a healthy 468" and 4.10 cogs in
back, that car would practically smoke the 275/35/20 Michelin Pilots at will
under 60mph. If I were doing it again, however,I would run a built 200R4
instead with some 3.55 cogs. A 700R4 and 4.10's make for an overgeared
combination,IMO.
