David,   What you're saying makes a lot of sense... Hurb here may be making his available, and I have seen one or two on eBay. If I were to buy a scatter shield, what should I be looking for? Who are the major players in this aftermarket? Buying used OK? If so, what should I be looking for?   As to your comment concerning going stock and my intended use, I want to go stock for the most part, with some safety improvements such as disc brakes and now maybe a scatter shield. The engine will not be original. I got one off e-bay a couple of months ago, but you might find a better deal at a swap. or used scatershield for budget reasons.
