Hi,
While on the subject of rear axles, which is better, the Auburn cone style posi or the Eaton clutch style? I am beginning to lean toward the Auburn unit. I know the 8.2 10 bolt is not the best, but will a
beefed version be at least as good as a stock 12 bolt? I am planning on going
with all new innards with 3.08's and aftermarket c-clip axles and a girdle type
rear cover. I'm still going to have about $1,200 in it. The 3.08 are temporary
as I am saving toward a Gear Vendor unit in about two years from now, then I
will go with something in the 3:42 - 3:90ish Range.
It also stands to reason that the 8.2 would allow for
less parasitic power loss and be quicker and return better gas mileage due to
the lighter weight of the internals. But since the ring gear is smaller in
diameter, the pinion would have less leverage so theoretically it would probably
equal out...or only be marginally better?
Is anyone out there running an 8.5 10 bolt?
Thanks,
Gene,
