It might depend on year, but I swapped a Muncie for a 700R4 and didn't have
to message the trans tunnel at all.  The swap was actually done at Phoenix
Transmissions in Texas and they explained that most 66-67 tunnels that
require mods are caused by old body mounts that have settled.  Since mine
had been replaced a couple years before I didn't have that problem.  They
even set up the B&M Quicksilver shifter a little left of center to use the
same hole the 4-speed shifter used.
