All of the 1969 A/C cars had Astro Ventilation as well. So,
they had A/C vents in the center of the dash aand also those ball shaped vents
in the lower corners just like 1966 and 67. I show that vent ball bezel as ball fitting 1966-67 Chevelle
and 1967-68 Camaro. It does not fit the 1968 Chevelle, and I assume the lack of
those bottom corner vents is the reason the a/c kit won’t fit a 1968. That vent
ball is also listed as fitting 1969, but 1969 did not have chrome bezels. The
left has the same grain and color as the dash carrier and the right one is
smooth and painted the dash color, but you can see that the 1969 cars with A/C
and Astro ventilation had pretty much the same vent configuration as the
1966-67 cars. Sorry that's not exactly what you were hoping to hear. You
might find a creative way to have those hoses come out from under the dash w/o
looking ugly, or settle for them just to point down instead of through a nice
vent that you can aim at your face. John Nasta -----Original
Message----- John,
Thanks a bunch! I'm trying to see if I can use the repo A/C left and
right vents that Vintage Air handles on my '68 dash. It's originally a
non-A/C car. I bought Vintage Air's sure fit Chevelle system for my dash,
but would like to get as close as possible to the original look. Here's a
link to their catalogue site, you just have to select the "Chevelle"
section and you will see the spot where they show part number 49306-VCL as a
67-68 factory air outside replica vent. http://www.vintageair.com/catalog.asp After
calling them, they told me these are REALLY for a 66-67 Chevelle, but some
vendors sell the exact same units also listing them as fitting a 69.
After questioning, no one claims they will fit a 68. I can't understand
this, as I'd suspect that the countours of a 68 and 69 dash would be identical
where these vents would fit. I've never seen a 66-67 Chevelle with air in
it, so I wouldn't know if the countour of that dash is the same or even
close. I found one vendor that told me that listing them as fitting a 69
was a misprint.
I do a lot of fabrication, so I don't have a problem doing a bit of reworking
to make them fit, but I want something that doesn't look jerry rigged when
done. So, I'm trying to guesstimate my odds at getting a nice looking
dash out of them if I buy a pair. No one seems to be able to help me out
much. I'm kinda winging it.... and thought pics of a 69 dash would be a
good start to help me compare what it looks like versus my 68. Pics of a
66-67 dash with air in it would help also. Does any of this make
sense.... I know I'm rambling a bit here.... Kevin
