Ahhh, that's good to know about the latch. Maybe I should take a close
look at yours before I paint anything.

I got the whole nose torn down today. It looks like the horizontal
part that the hood sits down on in the front, and the 2 vertical
pieces coming down from it are supposed to be black. It looks like the
front bumper filler panel (aka valance panel) is supposed to be the
body color. Is that correct for 1970?
That is correct, 30% gloss black. The hood latch/release mechanism is
supposed to be gray phosphate, but I just use Spray Gray for the
natural look.
