  True.  If those springs are still intact though, the cams around which the 
levers pivot will wear at a different rate then the lever.  This causes the 
hole in the lever to wear into a oval shape.  Thus it requires more travel to 
activate each part of the latch.  Often the remotes (the inside handle part) 
will wear in the same manner.  That might be why the inside handle was not 
working on one car and the outside wasnt working on another.
