I leave my chi confined in the kitchen with baby gates. He has no problem with strangers. He used to when we first got him but now he loves them all like he's known them forever! I dont think it has anything to do with confinement. :)

I leave my bigger chi in an area in my laundry room but it is open with a child gate to enclose it. I also have a younger chi that i leave in a cage area which is pretty big compared to her size. When she gets bigger I will put them together for company. I also have a cat which can jump over the gates to visit them if she wants to. She is always licking the older one so I know they get along well. When I get home, they are both very happy to see me. Especially the older one, he is jumping up and down like crazy. I see no trauma signs either except that they are a lot more cautious around strangers? I wonder if this is an effect of them being left alone for long periods. How is your dog with other people? I would probably confine your chi but in an open space unless you are sure he will not mess your house and chew on things. Some say to leave the radio on is a good idea. > > exposing_nabet <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:I am a working person and I have to leave my ADULT Chi mix at home > every day for about 10 hours (sigh!). > Is it alright to confine our Chis to a small space, like a bathroom, > with a kiddie door, the kind they can see thru so they don't feel so > confined? > I have done this a few times and when I come home from work, she is > terribly happy to see me, but there is not other sign of trauma or > acting up.
