I have a Chihuahua that is a very well behaved dog except for one
issue... he barks his head off at any strangers that come near him.
Any time anyone outside the small cirle of people he trusts approaches
him he goes nuts. The only way I can get him to calm down is to
increase the distance between him and the person he is barking at.
I've been working on this with him for a LONG time by having strangers
give him treats to try and gain his trust and reward him for coming
close (he usually takes the treat out of the stranger's hand and backs
away barking). I see SLOW progress. I've also tried scolding him when
he barks and forcing him to be near strangers even when he's upset.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of issue and have
advice on how to overcome it?
