Thanks for the encouraging emails. I felt like I was getting my teeth kicked in and planned on not responding to anymore emails. I like you have a butcher who is awesome. He grinds bone, meat, and spleen up into a wonderful patty for me to split amoungst my dogs. I also offer chicken necks, fish, and very few fruits and veggies. I am still in the learning process which will continue as long as I have animals.
The statements made in past emails about animals dying due to raw.....
RECALL Diamond dog food. I wonder how many dogs died from that?
RECALL Royal Canin canned foods, I wonder how many dogs died from that?
This is just recent recalls I won't waste my time digging up past recalls and wondering how many poor animals suffered due to contaminated processed foods.
As far as pork, I have read you can freeze it up to 3 months then use it. Seams kind of pointless since there are so many other meats to choose from huh? but it can be done. My butcher puts bones through the saw and has this huge pile of Bone Dust it is chicken, pork and beef. So I get it for free, freeze it for 3 months then add it to some fruits and veggies and Wala! a snack.
Thanks so much for your emails. I do not claim to be an expert but love to share what has worked for me.

Jen,
I totally agree with you. The raw diet is fantastic, and there is such
a huge difference between the digestion of humans and the digestion of
animals that the bacteria in meat being toxic to dogs is just not
true. The only thing I have ever heard that you shouldn't feed is pork
as it can cause trichanosis. (funnily enough a man-produced bacteria
strain). Not to mention that a dog will bury a bone and dig it up
weeks later and feast on the rotting stinky thing with no ill-effects.
Do you make your recipe or do you buy it? I make mine, and it works
pretty well, I have a butcher near me who sells grind ends for cheap,
my only concern is finding the right supplement. right now I am using
a smidge of spirulina for minerals and vitamens, but am thinking of
growing some wheat grass this summer for a little addition.
I used to make the boys stew and pour it over kibbles, but my chi is
getting a little chunky and the mini pin (a new addition) is a
diabetic and this diet was specifically suggested as being best for
him. It is working well.
A holistic vet is a must for this type of diet aswell. I wish there
were more in Ottawa where I am.

study nutrition that is why they offer Science Diet at their offices.
One of the worse dog foods on the market plus the get a pretty good
size commission. Raw feeding is one of the most natural ways to feed.
Do you think they hunted Iams in the wild? just because they are
domesticated does not make them any less of an animal. do we feed our
lions and snakes Lion and snake kibble? NO we feed them what they
would get in the wild, now why do we insist on doing our dogs
differently? They eat what we give them because they have no choice.
If you stick raw meat down on the ground and your dogs current
favorite food and lets see what they choose. How many times do you
take your dog to the vet to be put under dangerous anesthetic to get
its teeth cleaned from tarter build up? Where on earth does that
tarter come from? Do you think Kibble cleans the teeth? Do cookies
clean ours? lol With the natural diet

breaks down in dogs differently. to say a dog is just like us is just
plan uneducated. We are no more like dogs as we are bears, cats,
birds. We all have our own way of processing foods differently. I
sure would not eat dog food either. And why so much corn in the dog
food? Ever have a real bad shedding dog? ever have a scratching dry
skin dog? allergies to grains. Real common.

grains and what each one does for our dog but most BARF freeders do
not use grains. The only time a dog gets grains is in the stomach of
its prey. So grains, fruits and Veggies are really not necessary but
some offer it. Good luck with the studies, also type in "dog food
processing plants" in your search engine read some of those articles
:-( nasty.
