I have seen a few aggressive chis, but it is the exception, not the rule.  Usually, when a chi, or any dog for that matter, is being aggressive, it is due to 1)an abusive past, 2) a fight for necessities like food when food is rare (ei stray, ect) or 3)sudden fear. Pretty much any dog that is properly treated and provided for will be gentle unless they are intentionally taught otherwise. If a dog suddenly changes and becomes aggressive, I would look for signs of physical illness, being abused by someone or being extremely fearful of a new situation.
