None of my female pets have ever changed their personality post-spay.  They 
just seemed a lot happier during those times when they would have been in 
heat.  (You want to see doggie misery, look at a female in heat.  They're 
obviously totally miserable.)

May I suggest you check out my text file, "Dealing with a hostile/fearful 
dog" or something of that nature, on the group's home page in the Files 
section.  I would also suggest you start a program of nose-to-tail massage 
every single day, including ears and paws, and gradually let some close 
friends and family do some of the massage.  You don't need to study up on 
canine massage, just rub slowly and gently in gentle circular motions with 
your fingertips, not too much pressure.  This works *wonders* for 
aggressiveness and anxiety in dogs and is a fantastic bonding ritual, too.
