Just because this happened to your neighbors dog does not mean that she
should do the same. I say try whatever you need to first before you put the
dog down.

No offense but this dog needs to be put down.  The same thing happened to my
neighbor's dog.  They spent thousands of dollars and ultimately, nothing
could be done.
 
Poor little dog.
