I recently adopted a dog too, five years old. And for the first two
weeks he did mark all over the house. I agree with the other comment
of not using negative reinforcement. Bring training treats with you
everytime you walk him, and give him a treat when he goes to bathroom
outside. Make sure you are using a good cleaner that will remove the
scent when you clean the spots indoors. And make sure you give him
plenty of opportunities to go outside and do his thing, and praise him
everytime he does. Eventually my little boy, stopped marking, but
does occasionally make a mistake.
