The smacking with newspapers does not work, neither does the yelling. Sorry but I am a big believer in positive reinforcements. There are things you can try, the Tabasco sauce was a good one. Another one is to change his scent by rubbing him with lavender oil, then putting a few drops in a spray bottle of water and spraying the places he has marked. But this won't work if you don't get all the smell up from previous markings. I disagree with the posters that say you can't stop this. You can, it just takes a lot of hard work and time. Put him in a harness and on a leash that is attached to you when he is loose in the house, that way you can watch him and catch him before he marks.
