I agree with you 100 percent. I do not harbor bad feelings toward "oppsie" breedings, but when someone intentionally breeds two different breeds together without a purpose, I think it is wrong. At the same time, there are some purposes for which such a cross breeding may be legitimate. A lot of our pure breds today came about this way. Like when a hunter is trying to get a good dog that has the intelligence of one breed and the agility of another...that is how many of our breeds today come into existence. A dog that is being bred for a specific task may require the elements of two different breeds.....
But let's face it, for the most part, that isn't what is happening with these designer breeds. They are being cross bred simply because there is a market for them. It is a money thing. I breed Chihuahuas and the purpose as a breeder is to "better the breed". Such a generic term, since what "betters the breed" is often in the eyes of the select few. So I breed Chihuahuas to bring out the trait that I like in the Chihuahua. I have a rescue that is a chi/jrt mix. He was suppose to have been a temporary foster, but my son fell in love with him and we kept him. He is not for breeding and I would never have cross bred that, but he is still special to us. As you can tell this really upsets me... not just because I have a love for Chihuahuas but also because there are enough dogs out there that need homes without people breeding more and more.
